Proof Positive that Houses are Moving!!!!!!

Morning on Dale St
It was a dreary Tuesday.
Specifically April 19, 2011....

I was on the way to my Medfield office and came across the

Late afternoon Green St

Medfield, MA   is the birthplace of  Lowell Mason  who is considered to be the "Father of American Music Education".

The Lowell Mason home was moved from it's site on Adams Street to a new foundation right by the "Swim Pond" on Green St.   It was a busy day that Tuesday in Medfield.   Not a sight that you might see often, so folks were out in droves, umbrellas in hand to watch the home being pulled by truck to it's new resting place.   The town was swarming with utility trucks and workers.
Detours everywhere!...   It took about 11 hours to make the move.
Not bad for an old house!

  1. I'd much rather see a historic home being moved across town that watch the wrecking ball. Nice to know that people still care enough about an 'old building' to see that it isn't destroyed.

I'm one of those house people. I loved going to see Teddy Roosevelt's house on Long Island and the Castle in the Clouds in NH. I just love imagining what life was like for the people who lived in these homes.

Who knew that Medfield had such a connection to Education! Love it!

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. Nancy, I too have a love for old homes and love to think about the folks that lived in them and what their stories might be. A high five goes out to the folks that help in saving and restoring these pieces of our history. It's exciting to learn that so many famous Americans educators lived right in this area... Lowell Mason in Medfield, Horace Mann in Franklin, Annie Sullivan in Wrentham... to name a few! Thanks for reading!

  3. I know of Lowell Mason but I didn't realize he was from Medfield. Wish I would have known sooner
-- I might have taken a look on Tuesday!
